Fall 2010 Civil Mediation Apprenticeship
Looking to receive real-world, hands-on mediation training and mentoring? Do you want to be a quality mediator to your clients?
REGISTER NOW for the NJAPM sponsored civil mediation apprenticeship program. The apprenticeship will be 10 sessions of mentored actual cases mediated in small claims, special civil or municipal court.
This course is designed for new or inexperienced mediators looking to gain mediation experience and skill enhancement. And unlike the television version of "The Apprentice", no one will be fired each week.
The apprentice will initially watch the mentor mediate a case, then co-mediate with the mentor, quickly move on to co-mediating with a classmate then mediating solo, all while being observed by an experienced mediator mentor. Students will receive direct feedback immediately thereafter from the mentor. Students will rotate through different mentors so students are exposed to different mediation styles. Mediating real cases is far different and far more valuable than mediating role plays. The apprenticeship is one of the best ways to quickly improve your quality and comfort level as a mediator.
Mentors are highly experienced civil mediators, accredited by the NJAPM and are members of the court's presumptive mediation roster of mediators.
The apprenticeship is available in two different locations in New Jersey. The northern location is in Union County Court in Elizabeth. Cases utilized are from small claims court and special civil part on Tuesday or Wednesday mornings. The southern location is in Burlington County Courts. Cases there are drawn from small claims court and special civil part on Monday or Thursday mornings in Mt. Holly. In addition, we are able to hold an evening section in Burlington County Municipal Courts, which would move around the courty by location and day of week depending on court demand (students would have about 2 weeks notice on date). We try our best to accommodate student's schedules.
